Much-loved Australian children’s book, Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles and Rob Clement, is highlighted in the third release in the Royal Australian Mint’s and Children’s Book Council of Australia’s partnership, promoting reading to young audiences. Each year around Australia, children, schools and families celebrate the joy of reading one week more than any other – Book Week. A long-standing tradition of nearly 80 years, Book Week sees children dress as a character from their favourite book, enjoy story time, and fall further in love with reading. Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles and Rod Clement is celebrated in 2023 – 35 years since it was first published. Edward the Emu was shortlisted in 1989 as the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Picture Book of the Year.
