For those who are familiar with the Chinese Zodiac, the Tai Sui is the personified deity of the stars opposite Jupiter who rules over all earthly matters in a specific lunar calendar. The Tai Sui changes every year during the Lunar New Year, as with the Zodiac. Typically, the Zodiac of the year would ‘clash’ with the Tai Sui, resulting in difficulties or setbacks through the year for those born under the same sign. As such, the auspicious dragon is intentionally paired with the Zodiac sign of the year in this series to attract success and luck for the particular Zodiac.
This impressive silver coin is a showcase of the Dragon Tiger Pairing under the Auspicious Dragon Zodiac Pairing series, symbolizing a strong and confident charge into 2022 the Year of the Tiger. The reverse of this antiqued high relief coin features an incredibly powerful depiction of the auspicious dragon and tiger. The ferocity depicted on its face is terrifying. Its long, serpentine body curls to surround the Tiger for protection. The dragon is pairing its influence with the Tiger as it is displayed bursting on the scene of the Year of the Tiger, determined in its strength and diligence to make a positive and enduring influence on the year. The obverse displays the unique presentation of Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The presence of the auspicious dragon is seen in the background, the Queen’s portrait is displayed within a circular inset, while the dragon image and textures fill the entire obverse. The date of issue and face value are also included at the outer rim.
The production of this magnificent coin has been made possible only through a new minting technique known as Bi-Metal-Plus. The process begins with an 11.5oz copper core within two layers of 99.9% fine silver. This results in a large 80mm diameter, double that of a normal collectible coin. The 11.5oz copper core adds tremendous bulk and weight without the extra cost of an equivalent amount of silver weight. This also allows for the super ultra-high relief strike that brings alive the coin’s incredibly detailed design.
